Burnout

My profuse apologies for neglecting this blog for so long—it’s not that I don’t want to post; I’ve simply run out of things to say.  For the moment, I’ll blame it on summertime.  Sound good?

Blogging isn’t the only abandoned hobby around here.  All my “writing projects” are now “writing thoughts.”  I haven’t made any progress in weeks, maybe months.  But as much as I’d like to see them finished, I don’t mind letting them rest.  Writing is fun—trouble is, the fun gets lost when you’re making yourself do it.  Why not wait for the desire to write?  I’m not going anywhere, and neither are the ideas.  It’s good to take a break.

Summer brings with it a wild amount of traveling and hectic schedules for the Maisano family.  This week, we’re participating in a local chamber music festival.   Our concert will be on Saturday.  The following Wednesday, we’ll pile in the car and head to Tennessee for a two-week music camp with the Annie Moses Band.  Allowing time for travel there and back…well, July will be gone by the time we get home.  At the moment, August looks empty.  Leave it to us to plan another trip, though!  Before we know it, the 2009-20010 NCFCA season will have begun, and “hectic” will be synonymous with “normal life.”  Moreso than usual, that is.

And there you have it.  I await the return of the blogger within me—I expect she’ll show up soon.

Nationals: The Epic Video Blog

Wow!  Blog stats around here are pretty minimal of late, but I can’t say I blame y’all.  In the rush and excitement of Nationals and a trip halfway across the country, blogging took a backseat to other activities.

The tournament itself was fabulous in every respect (check out results and more here).  As can probably be expected by now, I put together a video blog of the event—only this time, it grew to massive proportions.  It’s hardly possible to cover Nationals in the space of ten minutes, but I gave it a shot:

Almost There

As I post this, I’m realizing that I never gave any intro as to where we’re headed this week.  To keep in brief, this is the real last tournament of the year—Nationals.  My sister will be competing in several events; the rest of us attend as cheerleaders.  Here’s the first blog post of the trip:

Howdy, y’all!  Today’s travels finds the Maisano group in Nashville, Tennessee, visiting with friends and having a wonderful time.  Later this evening we’ll arrive in Greenville.  A few pictures from our journey thus far…

Apparently, some people thought the temperature in the car was a bit chilly.

We took a break at a rest stop in Arkansas.  Hurrah for finally making it out of Texas!

We saw a tank on the road…

…which thrilled certain members of the group.

Oh, look.  A self-portrait.

Staying with long-time family friends, and wonderful hosts.  Dinner was amazing.

Toni’s favorite was the ice tea.

We had some entertainment…

…and then we stopped taking pictures in favor of more interesting activities.  Sorry.  Now it’s onward to South Carolina…

Hit it, Maestro!

Sunday evening was our spring orchestra concert, and an amazingly fun event.  We performed pieces from Pirates of the Caribbean, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Patriot—I love movie soundtracks.  And, for our community orchestra, we did pretty well.

My dad taped most of the songs, but due to technical difficulties (okay, due to my impatience to deal with the technical difficulties) I’ve only uploaded the Irish medley Toni, Katy and I performed at the end.  Musicians, please ignore the fact that my violin is woefully out of tune.  You may now proceed:

Graduation

Well, it’s all over and done now.  Congratulations, Toni, and all the rest of you seniors!  The ceremony was wonderful—everyone did a fabulous job speaking.  I’ve got well over 400 pictures, but unfortunately, they’re inaccessible at the moment.  So you just get this one:
